Day 5

ericlara1231

We had breakfast at 7am at Juan and Johanna's house (Johnny's parents), where we were served oatmeal and bananas. After breakfast, we headed to the worksites (either the Biofabrica or the Biojardinera). Where I chose to work, at the Biofabrica, we were working with Jorgito on constructing rebar reinforcement cages. This involved cutting rebar with an angle grinder, bending these pieces of rebar into rectangular shapes, and then tying it all tightly together with metal wire. The Young Dreamers Luis(Jr.) and Sofia came to help us out and we showed them how to utilize some of the tools and equipment that we were using for this process. After work, we headed to Doña Flora's house for lunch. She made us rice, chicken salad, diced chayote, and guava juice. After lunch, we headed back to Tami Lodge to shower and get ready to meet the families for Cultural Immersion day. Jadyn and I got paired up with Luis(Sr.) and Patricia's family. They had a very beautiful home with a huge garden surrounding the entire property. They had 4 cats and one of them was named Gato which means "cat" in Spanish. Patricia showed us how to make empanadas and then we went on a walk with the family. Luis(Sr.) and his son Luis(Jr.) had built two cabins on the land around their house and Jadyn and I got to stay in one of them. To end the day, we went back to Johnny's house for dinner where we ate trout, potatoes, and salad.
